Sinking Funds 101 + Best Free Sinking Funds Tracker Printable

Looking to save some money? This post is showing you exactly how using our sinking funds tracker will help you achieve your money goals!

    sinking funds tracker

If saving money has always been quite difficult for you, or you are looking to save towards a particular goal, sinking funds are your solution. Trust me on this, sinking funds have been proven to save me 1,000s in the past year. Using this free sinking funds tracker PDF can help you save 100s, too.

Before we get into how great our sinking funds tracker template is, let’s get into what sinking funds really are.

    What are Sinking Funds?

Sinking funds are great money saving trackers that essentially help you save money towards a particular goal. Think of each fund as an individual piggy bank that you put money towards as often as you like.

For example, for my sinking funds I put money in every single month as I get paid. However, a lot of American people, will put money in twice a month (as they get paid twice a month.)

Sinking fund trackers are used to keep track of your sinking funds and keep you motivated and know exactly where all of your money is going. Scroll down to download your individual sinking funds tracker free pdf!

Now, for sinking funds a tracker is a key but you also need to think… where am i going to keep all of my money? I have you covered here, too.

    Sinking Funds Equipment

In addition to your sinking funds tracker, here are two items I highly recommend using to help keep track of each of your funds separately and physically.

DYMO Label Maker with 3 Bonus Labeling Tapes

This is to create labels for all of your folders and other organisational tools!

    Amazon US Amazon UK

I LOVE these items and use these exact ones to separate and contain all of my funds. I have my ziplock folders within my binder, with each folder labelled to the corresponding fund.

So the folder is a great place to store each individual fund– I went for an A5 folder, along with A5 ziplock style inserts. You can definitely go for an A6 size if you don’t mind you money being slightly squished.

For the labels I went in with my Dymo label printer to print and stick on each fund label. I toyed with the idea of just having sticky labels I could write on but this label printer won as it has a much cleaner look and I can use it for so may more things!

So where does the sinking funds tracker come into this?

    • Monthly Sinking Fund Tracker

If you are looking for a more yearly structured and detailed sinking funds planner, check out my digital sinking funds planner posts, that you can also print out!

I print out my sinking funds tracker sheet and slot it into the front of my ring binder so I can keep track of the balance! As each sheet has 4 funds on it, it saves so much space and is more economical. Each fund comes with 12 rows within the ‘date’ column, one for each month of the year!

I have used GoodNotes on my iPad to give you a demonstration of how I use the free sinking funds tracker below.

    free sinking funds tracker

We’ve already spoken about the separate funds tracker, so let’s talk about the monthly sinking funds tracker. This tracker is SO GOOD. You essentially list all of your funds for a particular month/ date and state how much you have added and or spent from that sinking fund.

There’s also a spent/ added section where you can state the respective amounts. If you budget monthly, this pack is great, especially if you dip into your sinking funds during those months. Below I have put in a brief example of how I use this sinking fund tracker.

When these two trackers are used in conjunction together, it really gives you a much more effective grip on your finances and you can effectively see how much money you have in your whole funds per month!

For example, I have started the month off in May with £220 in my gifts budget, however during that month I bought a pair of jeans for my sisters birthday for £60, therefore I place -60 into the +/- column and then at the end of the month, I put £160 in the end column!

When I say this pack has SAVED my finances and helped me save 1000s for a holiday and car, I mean it!

Christmas can be so so stressful. What do you buy everyone? What are you cooking? What is the budget? So many questions that do not add to the holly-jolly of the season at all. To make the season less stressful (as we know it is stressful enough) we made an amazing Christmas planner printable for you to print out and use!

This post is giving you two Christmas Planner Printable

    Christmas Planner Printable

It’s time to say ‘goodbye’ to the mad festive dash that we dread every single year, due to us leaving things to the last minute. We are going to become organised Kings and Queens this year and get everything DONE on time. This Christmas planner printable will help you do exactly that.

The great thing about this FREE printable? You can use this for this year and re-use it for next year, too! Also, if you do not have a printer this PDF is compatible with all note-taking apps (I use mine on Goodnotes) and works exactly the same.

Right, so what’s actually in this Christmas Planner Printable pack?

    1. Overall To-Do and Card Tracker

This first half of this page is essentially an overall to-do brain dump where you can have an overview of everything you need to do! If you find you have more to do’s than the space provided its so simple to print out/ duplicate another sheet.

The second half is a Christmas card tracker, which is great for you to put who you’re giving cards to and track whether you have sent them or not.

PS: look how gorgeous these cards are!

    2. Budget

Up next we have the Christmas Budget Printable. As it shows on the sheet you put the category, the amount you are budgeting for it, the actual amount you spent and whether you are over or under budget.

This sheet is AMAZING. You can keep track of every single penny and know if one category needs less money/ more money to spend on it.

Enjoying this Christmas post? Here’s more to check out:

    3-4. Gift Tracker

    christmas planner printable 2021

Probably one of the best trackers in this Christmas printable planner. Why? You need to use this tracker to get how amazing it is. I have dedicated two pages in this planner for a gift tracker so you can keep track of every single present you are giving out.

Using the present budget you assigned to presents in the budget tracker on page two, you can assign each person a budget and write down all of the presents you have gotten them and then the actual price.

This is a great way to keep track of the presents you have bought and who for!

    5. On The Menu

If you are hosting Christmas dinner this year, this is the perfect page to put your menu on! This is a great page to use as it will keep you from over/ under cooking. For example, I know during my family Christmas dinners, we ALWAYS seem to undercook the amount of roast potatoes. This Christmas planner page will remind me to cook the right amount (which in our case is probably around 50+ potatoes 😂.)

If you are not hosting Christmas dinner this year, this page is still great for you to put some fun festive recipes you would like to cook this Holiday season, like a peppermint latte, or a gingerbread house.

    6. Shopping List

Lastly we have a general shopping list. This page is great for you to put the food and festive bits you definitely need to get this season and then tick it off when you do!

    Christmas Planner PDF

Now while this printable is free, we also have a more elevated Christmas planner printable version with a bunch of extra spreads and trackers on our shop here!

  • 5 Awesome Free Apps to Stop Procrastination AND Keep You Off Your Phone

5 Awesome Free Apps to Stop Procrastination AND Keep You Off Your Phone

Here are 5 of the most effective apps to stop procrastination AND are guaranteed to keep you off of your phone!

    apps to stop procrastination

Have an important deadline coming up? Or have an assignment due soon? Know about these things but still cannot stop procrastinating on your phone? Same. We’ve all been there and visit back… frequently.

The key is to be able to say ‘stop,’ put your phone down and actually crack on with some work when you need to. Now, not all of us (including myself) have the willpower to not pick it up again five minutes later.

Trust me, I have been there and I have tried so many apps to stop procrastination, and I have found these 5 apps are the best, guaranteed to keep you off of your phone, and will stop your fingers from twitching to check your socials.

This post is all about the best apps to stop procrastination!

Best Free Apps To Stop Procrastination

All of these apps are free and are truly the best procrastination apps out there! This isn’t the ultimate key on how to stop procrastinating BUT these apps will really help!

RELATED POSTS: HOW TO STOP PROCRASTINATING AT UNIVERSITY | 13 WAYS TO BE PRODUCTIVE

    1. Forest

This app allows you to time how long you want to stay off of your phone for. How? You plant a tree and if you go on your phone… the tree dies. You wouldn’t think it, but this is such a great incentive not to wander off of the app as no one wants a forest of dead trees.

You can also do a group session, which is great, especially when you are doing some long library sessions. I used to do them all of the time at university with my friends, which is why I believe this to be one of the best apps to stop procrastination!

With the paid version you can plant different trees, which is a great motivator. If you have the free version and someone you are doing a group sesh with has the paid version you can plant all the trees they have. The more trees that die, that you want to remove, the more you have to pay to remove them, which really stimulates you not to go on your phone!

This app is truly an awesome and is one of the best most interactive procrastination apps for students or people that will get obsessed with planting pretty trees!

Check out Forest: IOS / Android

    2. Toggl

Toggl is essentially a time keeping app that times how long you stay on a task for.

When you set a task, you can assign it a colour category, and start the timer for your task. Until you complete the task, you can pause and restart the timer at your pleasing.

The great thing about this app is that you can create reports and dashboards to see how well you have been doing for each task/ category. For example, it may show that you’ve been spending way too long completing admin tasks. Therefore, these are the tasks you should prioritise first to get them out of the way with.

Having a timer and eventually knowing how long it takes you to complete a task, will mean you stay off of your phone for as long as it takes you to complete the task.

Check out Toggl: iOS / Android

    3. Focus To-Do

Focus To-Do combines the Promodoro method with task management.

The Promodoro method is a time-task (totally made that up) method that requires you to work for 25 minutes straight, have a break for five and repeat.

Focus To-Do is one of the best apps to stop procrastination out there. It is essentially your to-do list, where you focus on one task at a time. Once you have picked a task you set the promodoro timer for 25 minutes and get to it! You will then get a five minute break and repeat until you are satisfied with what you have done.

The Promodoro timer is great! Counting down is an effective way to stop you from reaching for those time consuming apps because you know at the end of your 25 minute break you will have 5 minutes to do whatever you would like.

Check out Focus To-Do: iOS / Android

But where do we put our to-dos? Check out our digital weekly to-do planner:

    4. Freedom

Freedom is a great app that stops you from going onto websites that take up your time.

This is a chrome extension app that once activated you can create a list of blocked websites (like reddit, pinterest etc.) so when you click on them, you cannot access them.

This app doesn’t stop you from going onto different apps but it will help keep you on track and stop browsing!

Check out Freedom: iOS / Android

    5. Simple Habit

Simple Habit is not your traditional ‘one of the best apps to stop procrastination and keep you off of your phone’ app. It doesn’t time you, it doesn’t block your screen, instead it gives you time for a five minute meditation.

if meditation is not your thing, then you can totally miss this one out BUT, there’s no harm in trying it. These five minute meditations are thought to relieve stress, and sleep more. This overall helps you improve your mental health and achieve more (thus making you more productive!!)

Top 10 Best Bookshelf Organization Ideas Every Reader Needs to Try!

Thank you to everyone who allowed me to use photos of their bookshelves for this bookshelf organization ideas post! Please do not repost them 🙂

This post is showing you the top 10 bookshelf organization ideas that will make you want to re-organize your bookshelves!

    bookshelf organization ideas

Presenting your books is one of the best things about owning so many books. There’s nothing better than walking into your room and seeing your precious books so beautifully displayed 😍.

This post is all about bookshelf organization ideas!

Why You SHOULD (Re-)Organize Your Bookshelf!

Switching up and organizing your bookshelf in different ways refreshes your TBR and makes you want to read those books instead of buying more.

Not only this but re-organizing your bookshelves reflects you! It helps you sort out the books you want and don’t want. Ultimately, making your bookshelves more you!

Use your bookshelves to showcase your favourites but also make your shelves functional for you!

    Bookshelf Organization Ideas

The great thing about these bookshelf organization ideas is that you can bundle them up. For example, I combine genre and author and it organizes my books extremely well!

    @jamiemcgillen

    1. Author

A very popular idea is to arrange your books via author! You can do this by favourite authors like I do or the author you own the most books of!

    2. Alphabetical Author

Another choice, which most library’s do, is to organize your books alphabetically by author! This is possibly the smartest choice and if you have loads of books it’ll be very easy to find a book you are looking for.

    3. Colour

Rainbow bookshelves are honestly the most aesthetic to look at! However doing this means you have to have really colourful books (and books in a range of colours!) Also, doing this will mean your book series are broken up.

    4. Genre

I arrange mine via genre and author. Arranging by genre makes the most sense to me because they are grouped together in a category, which can bundle up the series and author within it.

    5. Favourites

I LOVE this idea. it’s so cool and makes your shelves extra personal. Essentially you would have favourite shelves, favourite genres… anything you want.

    bookshelf organization ideas bedroom

    @_bydanielle

    6. Favourite Series

Put your favourite series on display! Just like the favourites idea, you can show your love of your most beloved book series!

    7. Read and Have not Read

This is such a cool, interesting and probably destructive idea for a lot of people who hoard books 😂. If you have bunch of books on your shelves you have not yet read this is a great idea to help you read them! The more you see the group of unread books, the more you’ll want to get rid of them by reading them!

Want some more book and organization posts?

    8. Publication Year

Now I thought of this idea and thought it was so cool! To think you could have so many books on your shelves written a hundred or so years a go, but also a book that was written this year is insane! I guess it would be so cool to physically see the dates your books were published, especially if you’re interested in reading older literature!

    9. Height

If you hate mismatched heights, like I do, this is for you! Have all of your bigger books on one shelf, or on side of the shelf depending on how you are organising your books.

Have books in a series of different sizes? Lay the bigger ones down and have the smaller ones stood on stop!

    10. Paperback and Hardback

Keep your paperback and hardback grouped together. This is much more appeasing to the eye and overall I recommend this no matter how you organise your bookshelves!

That is 10 brilliant bookshelf organization ideas every reader should try.

How To Be More Productive | 13 Genius Productivity Tips To Get Things Done

This post is all about how to be more productive! We are providing you with some genius productivity tips and tricks to help you get things done!

    how to be more productive

As we start a new year, a new exam season, or a new project we want to be able to get things done in a timely manner and smash our goals. It can be quite difficult to do this. But guess what? It is possible with the productivity tips given in this post.

Whether your goal is weeks away, days away or at the end of the year, whether your task is big or small, implementing these genius productivity tips will help you get there!

Here’s how to be more productive!

    How To Be More Productive

I am just going to put a disclaimer in before we start. You do not need to do every single one of these tips to be productive. Productivity is determined by you. If making your bed is productive for you, that’s great! If going on a run at 7am in the morning and doing all of your chores is productive, that’s also great.

    Set more than one alarm

Start your day right and actually get up when you are supposed to. I set about five alarms in the morning to get myself up on time. This helps you snooze whilst also snoozing less, if that makes sense! I highly recommend doing this if you struggle waking up in the morning

Set out all of the things you will need in the morning the night before

Setting out your clothes, the things you make your breakfast and coffee with, and your makeup up and shower things will help streamline your morning and enable a stress free start to your day.

Make a daily to-do list in the morning

As you sit down with your morning hot drink and breakfast, make a to-do list of thing you need to get done in that day. This could be looking at all of the appointments, meetings, or calls you have and pencilling them in as well as other tasks.

Making a to-do list will allow your productivity to skyrocket as it is a visual tool that will inspire you to get things done!

    Set Small Manageable Goals

Be realistic, do not expect to complete a whole draft of your thesis in one day. Setting yourself small manageable tasks will help you be more productive as you are actually able to complete them!

    Meal Prep!

This is such a massive time-saver. You do not even have to think about what’s for lunch and dinner because you already have it!

I know meal prepping is quite hard but if you go onto Pinterest and type in meal prep ideas, there’s 1000s of posts!

    Clean Up As You Go

Whilst you go about your daily routine make sure to clean up after yourself. You may spend a few minutes doing this but its better spending a few minutes here and there instead of 30 minutes at the end of the day.

Want More Organisation And Productivity Posts? You got it:

    Go over your to-do list

how to be more productive student

Being productive is NOT completing the whole of your to-do list. It is doing what YOU can, that YOU deem as productive.

Going over your to-do list throughout the day will help you understand the pace you work at. This makes it easier to set yourself taks in the future as you will roughly know how long they will take. This is also good as you can amend daily tasks if you know there is no way you are going to get it done.

    Review your goals regularly

Reviewing you goals will help you be more productive because you are mentally reminding yourself of your goals. Subconsciously, you will therefore work harder towards your goals, making you achieve them.

Rank Your Tasks in Order of Importance

Rank the things you need to do in the day in order of importance, and do the most important things first. This will automatically make you feel more productive once the more important task is checked off.

    Complete Small Tasks in Chunks

Set aside about an hour a day to get small tasks done. This could be sending out some emails, folding your laundry, and washing up dishes. All three tasks can be done within the space of an hour. These power hours are amazing to just tick off loads of things that need to be done.

Go For A Walk in the Middle of The Day

Taking breaks is crucial for high productivity! Break up your day and go for a walk during lunch. This will help clear your head and allow your brain to refresh and rejuvinate for the second part of your day.

Clear Your Workspace at the End of the Day

I cannot stress how important this task is. At the end of the day, clear your desk off all thing you used that day such as, coffee mugs, plates, pieces of paper, books etc. as you do not want to carry them over with you to the new day. It is so annoying waking up in the morning and having to clear your desk before you have to work!

    Treat Yo’ Self

That’s right! You have got to give yourself regular breaks when being productive. As said before, being productive is not doing every single thing on your to-do list.

Treat yourself for tasks you complete. For example, once I write this post I am going to have some chocolate. Not only does this motivate you but it actually works to get things done!

That was HOW TO BE PRODUCTIVE! If you have any productivity tips, make sure to comment them below!

  • Organising My Desk Drawers | How to Organize Your Desk Drawers Effectively for Productivity

Organising My Desk Drawers | How to Organize Your Desk Drawers Effectively for Productivity

This post is all about how to organize your desk drawers effectively to maximise productivity.

If you didn’t already know, I am such a huge fan of organisation, both inside and outside of my bullet journal. I love having everything easily accessible yet, over quarantine my desk drawers seemed to have collected a bunch of junk. It was time for me to organise them again but this time, better.

For organisation tools, I am only using storage bins that are very cheap and accessible (mine were actually from poundland) to organise my three drawer desk. These are very similar to what I used:

    Small White Plastic Storage Baskets

Pack of 12- a perfect amount to aid with organisation

    Amazon

How To Organize Your Desk Drawers To Increase Productivity

    1. Take some before photos!

I love taking before photos. Not only are they a great comparison tool, they are fantastic motivators for you to get the job done! Here are my three drawers.

    2. Take everything out of your desk drawers

You will not believe the amount of rubbish you have accumulated since the last time you organised your desk drawers. I had candles, wax melts, an old skirt and a bunch of loose paper that had no business being in the drawers.

Taking everything out of your drawers allows you to physically see all that you have and is a great way to pick out all of the rubbish.

    3. Organise everything into drawer piles

I had three drawers so I organised everything into three piles, one for each drawer. This will give you a visual representation of what’s going to fit and where. It also helps you categorise your draws effectively and get rid of things you do not need.

Want some more desk space advice?

    4. Clean the insides of your drawers

Grab some anti-bacterial spray and wipe down your drawers; good hygiene is always key.

    5. Organize your Desk Drawers – Put it all into its place!

Here’s how I organised each of my three desk drawers:

I decided to put my most used stuff in the top drawer comprising of: my most used journals, postit notes and stickers. My most used small bits were organised into two bins: one for post-its and stickers and the other for washi and glue. I decided to stand the books up to maximise space and it also gives me easier access to them. It is now so much easier for me to open the drawer and just pick out what I need.

The second drawer used to be my makeup drawer and was a complete mess. I decided to put my less used notebooks in there as well as journalling paper pads (all laying down as I do not use them as much,) along with my dual brush pens and some card making things I received a while back.

The last drawer is dedicated to my makeup. I have so much makeup but the makeup I use everyday, a long with a few eyeshadow palettes are placed in this drawer. As I use them mostly everyday, I wanted it to be an easy access situation because I get ready very early in the mornings for work at my desk. I have pencils in the black pouch at the back and then my makeup towards the front.

    6. RELAX

Well done, you’ve done it; you now have easily accessible things in organised drawers. How to celebrate? Start using your things and get on with some work 😉

That is how to organize your desk drawers to increase productivity!

  • How To Organize Your Desk | Desk Organization Ideas

This post is about how you can improve and organize your desk space to increase your productivity on a budget. This post is perfect for those starting college/ university and those who are starting a new job/ project or you just want some new desk inspiration.

*Please note, this post contains affiliate links. If you purchase anything via these links I may get a small commission at no extra cost to yourself.

    student desk organization ideas

Hello everyone, welcome to my first ever organisation post not within the confines of my bullet journal. Now don’t get me wrong, I love my bullet journal; it keeps me very organised. However, I can not stay organised if my surroundings are chaotic. I guess this is where the saying: ‘a clear space is a clear mind’ is appropriate. I may have just butchered that quote but you get my gist. I’m a true believer that having an organised, not necessarily clear, workspace promotes productivity. Therefore, this post is here to teach you how to organize your desk space on a budget so you can achieve your goals.

    Back To Basics

Firstly, we’re going to go back to basics. Here we are going to discuss a few points regarding the environment around your workspace. Now your workspace doesn’t necessarily have to be a desk, it can be a table or anywhere comfortable.

From school and countless revision tips post and videos, we know that it is optimal to have your desk facing a window so you can get some natural sunlight. However, not all of us (like myself) can place our desks in front of windows, including most dorm rooms and halls. Therefore, make sure to get a light source for your desk. I spoke about my desk lamp in my Amazon Must Haves post, but this rechargeable desk lamp is amazing and you don’t have to worry about any pesky wires. It is also transportable therefore you can take it anywhere, perfect for those who work on the sofa or their floor.

How To Organize The Top Of Your Desk

The clearer your workspace is the more productive you are. Therefore you do not want to have a cluttered space where you cant reach for things easily or find what you are looking for.

I recommend purchasing the following for things that you constantly reach for:

    • Stationary organiser
    • File holder
    • Bookshelf Desktop organisers

I also recommend, if you don’t have something solid to work on, getting a lap desk. This enables you a bit more movement and gives you more room to put things such as, a drink and your stationary organiser on.

    Stationary Organisers

These stationary organisers are so cool and effective. Some will allow you to organise your pens by brand and colours whilst others you can use to just store them altogether, like I do! I personally use a big pot to store my most reached for stationary, similar to the marble ones below.

For this post, i have included links to both amazon UK and US.

I love single and dual compartment holders. I love having organised pens but I also love seeing them mixed altogether. This also saves space, instead of having multiple pots.

    File & Book Holders

No matter how many files/ books you have, these are a few options that will help you find your files easily and keep them all in one place. I have also included a book holder which you can use for studying and also as a holder for your tablet.

    File Holders

This file holder is perfect if you have multiple projects or are studying for multiple subjects as each subject can have its own dedicated space. If you don’t have a desk, these can be put anywhere such as on a shelf or a set of drawers.

If you are studying A-levels, this is perfect as there is one for each of your A-level subjects (check out my A-level success guide here!)

These rose gold triangle organisers are so cool and come in three different colours. Not only will this organise your workspace, it will also make your workspace look cool.

    Book Holders

Book holders are a perfect way to maximise space on your desk. Instead of having a book lying down, which is quite difficult to read, this book holder will have it upright for you. This is also great if you are working on a tablet or watching Netflix.

    Desktop Organisers

If you would rather have only a few things on your desk or want to add more dimension to your space, these desktop organisers look ah-mazing! I’m so tempted to get a white one when i complete my room transformation. The perfect thing about these is that they are adjustable so you can transform them to your liking.

How to Organize your Desk: Drawers

If you have any drawers in your desk then this section is going to teach you how to organise them effectively. Again if you don’t have any drawers you can still use these items as storage as they can be easily stacked.

Personally, I avoid having loads of things on my desk; opting to put them into drawers. I use acrylic trays to organise my stuff, including extra stationary, post its and loose paper. These come in multiple sizes and I use them to store everything. As the image above, each stationary item has its own compartment. Therefore, if you needed your sharpies you can easily reach in and grab them. The great thing about these is that you can stack them and arrange them however you like! This also means that they can be kept out of the way if you do not have drawers.

    Desk Wall Organisers

These organisers aren’t as important and essential as the top desk organisers but they do help with your productivity. With wall organisers you’re able to stick random thoughts up and most importantly you can use them as constant reminders of your goals. It also takes a way some of the things on your desk, which allows you more room to work, which is a plus!

My favourite organisers are the grids where you can use clips to stick notes and your visions on. Of course the traditional cork board and white board work just as well. The great thing about cork boards and white boards is that they now come in a range of sizes and shapes. They are also the most easy to put up on walls.

I also know that Ikea do these clip boards where you can clip a bunch of things on such as, pen pots, and note boards. These are really worth looking at (please see the picture below as my description did not do it justice.)

As for the peg board, I found these on Amazon. They’re cool but I am not sure about putting them up in your dorm room or university bedroom as they might tear off some plaster with it if they suddenly collapse with however much weight is added onto them.

That’s a wrap! I hope you enjoyed this post and have taken some inspiration from it. I really do love organisation and finding the best solutions to store my things. If you have any other storage ideas, I’d love to hear them.
