This post is showcasing some great, functional (and in my opinion, minimalist) bullet journal ideas. Yes, it’s a January bullet journal setup!
As said in my 2021 bullet journal setup, I am so pleased it is January! January brings new goals, a fresh slate and a great brand new bullet journal (whoop whoop 🥳). I am so excited for my 2021 bullet journal as I am going to get as creative as I can, experimenting with a bunch of different things.
I started off slow with my January bullet journal setup and actually decided to make it pretty minimalist as I did not want to bombard myself with a bunch of things too quickly, at first. Overall, I love the way it turned out and I am currently loving the simplicity and the use of only a few colours.
Now, let’s get into it…..
January Bullet Journal Setup Essentials
Here is exactly what I used for these minimalist bullet journal spreads, and the great thing is: I only used four items!
Archer & Olive Journal
Honestly, I purchased this purely for the cover and to see what all of the fuss is about. I’ve been using it for two days now and can’t really tell any difference (page wise) between this and the STM (my beloved.)
With A&O, you have to check if they supply to your country here, as they don’t ship internationally.
STM however are much cheaper and just as good in my opinion.
Kraft Paper
I bought this kraft paper from Amazon and really love the colour of it. I’ve seen some kraft papers that are too dark/ too light but this is just perfect. I’ve loved using this in my set up and January spreads and its a great medium to work with!
Sakura Micron Fineliners
Holy cow, I love these and they are so cheap, too! I bought them as a little stocking filler for myself and they really haven’t disappointed. I highly recommend these.
Uniball Signo White Gel Pen
I do really like this pen, but I don’t know if it’s just my specific pen but the ink sometimes struggles to come out of the pen, as you will see in the set up.

January Bullet Journal Cover Page
I definitely need to work on my floral designs but I do enjoy this monthly cover page. Usually, I have big, bold and perhaps sometimes OTT cover pages. This has been such a nice change and I absolutely love using the kraft paper and micron pens!
January Dashboard
Fun fact, I don’t track any to-dos in my bullet journal, apart from some main monthly ones, which is why I only have a few points. I’ve got my six blogposts to write and some trackers and this really does work well especially if you use a separate planner, like I do.
LOVE IT.

January Books Read
If you cannot tell already, I am so obsessed with covering a corner of a page with kraft paper. I love the way it looks and it just adds a great dimension to that page.
I do have a separate bookshelf of books I’ve read at the beginning of my bullet journal but in this section I give the book a rating and a few lines of text as a review.
