This post is all about October Bullet Journal Cover Ideas

    What Is A Bullet Journal?

A bullet journal is a DIY planner that you make to suit your needs. The whole point is that it follows a ‘bullet’ system when it comes to to-do lists that helps you easily take track of your lists. Over the years, bullet journalling has evolved into something more. You can make your journal as artsy or as minimalist as you want; it’s all good as long as it keeps you organised.

If you are yet to start a bullet journal or are looking to get more seriously into journalling, I 100% recommend a STM journal. The pages are super thick and white on these and they come in a range of colours.

I will not shut up about these markers, and there’s a reason. For the price point, these dual tip markers are phenomenal. Within this pack you also get a great selection of oranges and browns that can be used in a variety of spreads.

If you’re still unsure how to start a bullet journal definitely check out my guide on ‘How To Start A Bullet Journal,’ which is perfect for beginners! This post links some of the best essentials you need to start your journal.

Before jumping into the cover ideas, let’s look at the bullet journal themes you can follow for the month of September:

    @prettyllamaplans

This abstract October bullet journal cover spread is the embodiement of fall. We have the very warm tones of autumn leaves and the greys of the clouds. This is a lovely spread if you are looking for something different, away from the traditional October bullet journal themes.

    4. October Bullet Journal Cover Bats!

    october bullet journal cover bats

    @sarahs.bulletjournal

I don’t know about you but whenever I see green slime I automatically think of Nickelodeon (and so I think of Drake and Josh and Keenan and Kel #notcomplaining.) The snot slimey radioactive green colour paired with the black cobwebs and bats is a Halloween signature.

Also the lettering on this is insane!

Definitely try something like this out – especially the cobwebs, they are SO cool!

    5. Disney Halloween

    october bullet journal cover disney

    @bulletjournalbychloe

So many cute Halloween Mickeys, I am finding it so hard to pick my favourite! This spread from Chloe is super cute and something I recommend every Disney fan should try.

    12. October Wreath

    october bullet journal cover halloween

    @paigejacquelinejournalir

    13. October Bullet Journal Cover Minimalist

october bullet journal cover ideas easy

    @temi.journals

    14. October Bullet Journal Cover Autumnal Bouquet

    @tangerinestrawberry

The attention to detail in this spread is great, with the additions of the little apples and mushrooms.

    15. Black and White Simple October Bullet Journal Cover Florals

    october bullet journal cover minimalist

    @nattysbujo

Using some Sakura Microns and scrap paper this gorgeous spread was created. No colour, no pumpkins, just a black and white autumnal floral.

  • Organising My Desk Drawers | How to Organize Your Desk Drawers Effectively for Productivity

Organising My Desk Drawers | How to Organize Your Desk Drawers Effectively for Productivity

This post is all about how to organize your desk drawers effectively to maximise productivity.

If you didn’t already know, I am such a huge fan of organisation, both inside and outside of my bullet journal. I love having everything easily accessible yet, over quarantine my desk drawers seemed to have collected a bunch of junk. It was time for me to organise them again but this time, better.

For organisation tools, I am only using storage bins that are very cheap and accessible (mine were actually from poundland) to organise my three drawer desk. These are very similar to what I used:

    Small White Plastic Storage Baskets

Pack of 12- a perfect amount to aid with organisation

    Amazon

How To Organize Your Desk Drawers To Increase Productivity

    1. Take some before photos!

I love taking before photos. Not only are they a great comparison tool, they are fantastic motivators for you to get the job done! Here are my three drawers.

    2. Take everything out of your desk drawers

You will not believe the amount of rubbish you have accumulated since the last time you organised your desk drawers. I had candles, wax melts, an old skirt and a bunch of loose paper that had no business being in the drawers.

Taking everything out of your drawers allows you to physically see all that you have and is a great way to pick out all of the rubbish.

    3. Organise everything into drawer piles

I had three drawers so I organised everything into three piles, one for each drawer. This will give you a visual representation of what’s going to fit and where. It also helps you categorise your draws effectively and get rid of things you do not need.

    4. Clean the insides of your drawers

Grab some anti-bacterial spray and wipe down your drawers; good hygiene is always key.

    5. Organize your Desk Drawers – Put it all into its place!

Here’s how I organised each of my three desk drawers:

I decided to put my most used stuff in the top drawer comprising of: my most used journals, postit notes and stickers. My most used small bits were organised into two bins: one for post-its and stickers and the other for washi and glue. I decided to stand the books up to maximise space and it also gives me easier access to them. It is now so much easier for me to open the drawer and just pick out what I need.

The second drawer used to be my makeup drawer and was a complete mess. I decided to put my less used notebooks in there as well as journalling paper pads (all laying down as I do not use them as much,) along with my dual brush pens and some card making things I received a while back.

The last drawer is dedicated to my makeup. I have so much makeup but the makeup I use everyday, a long with a few eyeshadow palettes are placed in this drawer. As I use them mostly everyday, I wanted it to be an easy access situation because I get ready very early in the mornings for work at my desk. I have pencils in the black pouch at the back and then my makeup towards the front.

    6. RELAX

Well done, you’ve done it; you now have easily accessible things in organised drawers. How to celebrate? Start using your things and get on with some work 😉

That is how to organize your desk drawers to increase productivity!

An Autumn Coffee Shop Theme | September Bullet Journal Set Up

In this post you are in for a sweet treat (get it?) with my September Bullet Journal Set Up – which is a cute cafe theme.

It’s September time; time for jumpers, rain and hot drinks. Following my Fall Bullet Journal Theme Ideas and my September Bullet Journal Cover Theme Ideas, I was inspired to do a hot drink theme, mainly tea and coffee- which I drink in the cup fulls. The great thing about having these posts as inspiration is that you never know how your theme is going to end up.

Furthermore, being a very average drawer means I have to be a bit more creative in what I draw to make it look as artistic as possible. I am quite happy with how this month turned out; I finally used coloured pencils in my journal (which I have not used for years!) There was limited in my colour selection but it turned out great!

    What I Used:

If you would like to see an extensive list of things I use and have used in my journal, check out my must have bullet journal supplies for 2020 (great for beginners.)

    September Bullet Journal Set Up

Using one on my most favourite mugs for inspiration (you can see it in the photos) I created my September cover. I am not loving this title page but it could be way worse lol. I decided on the brown borders way after finishing this spread which is why it looks like a last minute addition.

Next up is my dashboard. On my dashboard I always have my blogging stats and my reading stats, which is what I use this journal for. I used these little illustrations to help me because I was absolutely awful at drawing disposable coffee cups. Here are the little illustrations I used:

  • 10 Things You Need To Know Before Starting A Blog

Looking to start a blog? Here are 10 things you need to know before starting a blog.

person using macbook pro on white table - things you need to know before starting a blog, grow your blog, why people read your blog, why i don't read your blog, blogging tips
    Pexels

I started blogging all the way back in 2012, at the age of 15! If you told 15 year old me that 23 year old me would still be typing to you, I would not have believed you. Granted, my blog has undergone a plethora of name changes and content; you name it, I have blogged about it. From fashion and beauty to books and blogging, I have not stopped blogging about my current loves. With eight years of experience I believe I am quite knowledgeable about the blogging world. Therefore, if you are looking to start a blog, I thought I’d share with you a few things you need to know before starting a blog.

1 | You’re not going to be receiving mega views from day one

Building up a readership takes time and effort. You are not going to see hundreds of people flock to your site with just one blogpost as growth takes time. Truthfully, I’m still not at my desired growth point and I know it’s going to take a while to get there.

2 | Posting consistently is key

To increase your readership and have an audience that comes back to your site, it is important that you post consistently. I try to post atleast twice a week so my site is constantly being updated and therefore my audience know that my blog is current.

3 | SEO is very important – learn it!

When I first started blogging, SEO was a very small thing that I paid no attention to. It’s quite difficult to get your head around at first so if you have WordPress I highly recommend the Yoast SEO plug in as it tells you how to improve the SEO on your site. SEO helps you rank higher in search engines and since using SEO I have seen an increase in search engine traffic.

    4 | GO SELF HOSTED

I cannot stress this one enough. If you are starting a blog in hopes of turning it into a business, going self hosted will help accelerate that process. Why? Well, you will get a domain of your choosing which increases your professionalism. Also with wordpress once you become self hosted you can change your blog design and start implementing plug ins which can start gaining you revenue.

For self hosting providers these two companies are great:

I absolutely loved Siteground – click here to check out their awesome packages! I would still be with them but they got a bit expensive for me.

Now I am with Bluehost which is cheaper but equally as good – click here to check out their packages!

5 | PINTEREST IS THE KEY TO GROWTH

Another capitalised heading, I know. This one is a very important thing you need to know; Pinterest accounts for around 80-90% of my blog views and without pinterest my blog views would be very minimal.

If you would like to know how i increased my pinterest page views by 200k in one week, click here!

    iphone beside pencil on book
    Pexels.com

6 | Do not saturate your blog with ads

There’s nothing worse than clicking onto someone’s blog and not being able to read or see any content because there are ads here, there and everywhere.

7 | The Cleaner the Layout, the Better (Fonts, Sidebar, Images)

Similar to the ad point, you do not want a cluttered blog. I remember when I started blogging, my sidebar was cluttered with badges and widgets; it was an eyesore. The cleaner your blog is the more people are enticed to stay for a while. Think of your blog like a shop or house, you don’t want to walk in and stay somewhere messy; you want some order.

8 | Make sure your images are of the highest quality

As a reader, ofcourse you read the post once you are on it however, the images are the first thing that entice a reader to read the post. Make sure your images are bright, clean and relevant to the blogpost.

9 | Not everyone will ‘get’ your blog and what HARD WORK comes with it.

Trust me my family still don’t get it. It could take me hours upon hours to complete one blog post but to them ‘surely it doesn’t take that long?’ Well it does. My ‘University Essentials‘ post took me DAYS yet it’s not the same as a job to them.

LOL this sounded so bitter but I’m basically just trying to say people will not understand how much goes into a post and they will not believe it when you tell them. Therefore as a new blogger, you’re probably underestimating how much work is going to have to go into your blog.

    10 | DON’T compare yourself to others

Just like everything in life, you will see results in your own time. It’s hard to not compare yourself to others but just keep in mind that you will get there. It’s something I have to remind myself of every day; trust in the process and you’ll succeed.

That was 10 things you need to know before starting a blog!

  • 7 Insanely Easy Ways on How to Stay Productive at University Without Risking Your Social Life

This post is all about how to stay productive at University whilst also maintaining your social life.

how to stay productive at university

It’s Friday night and the student union is doing 2 for 1 Jagerbombs tonight and all of your friends are going, but you. You have an assignment due tomorrow and as per usual, you’ve left it until the last minute. I am here to make sure that NEVER happens again. No need to risk your social life any longer because I’m giving you some insanely easy ways to stay productive at university so you will never have to miss out on a social ever again.

WHY You Should Be Productive At University

Regardless to what everyone things university is very, very important and here’s why you need to be on your A-Game from day 1:

    • You are paying 9K to be there (and the rest in maintenance) so make sure you get a good education out of it.
    • Every single assignment counts towards your grade, which counts towards your degree classification and is shown on your transcript.
    • First year doesn’t count? Well it does. Your first year grade determines whether you can continue to second year and it also aids you in getting a placement.
    • It really does pay to be productive! The more productive you are towards your degree, the more likely you are to succeed and keep these habits.
    • Practicing these productivity habits will evolve into healthy life habits

HOW to Stay Productive At University

Now you know why you should be productive here’s precisely how you can be productive at university.

The first thing is not going to be a must do/ must have because everyone organises themselves in different ways. I highly recommend a bullet journal, especially if your a student as they are helpful af and these steps can be implemented in your journal!

If you do not know how to start a bullet journal click here for my super helpful guide.

1 | List EVERYTHING You Need To Do, When You Get It

Keep a running checklist of every piece of work, powerpoint, questions etc, you have been looking at in lectures and have been set. This way you know exactly what you have done and can check it off when its completed.

2 | Make an ‘Assignment Due’ Timeline

Put this somewhere where you can ALWAYS see it. You wake up, you see it, you go to bed, you see it. Make a copy and put it into your binder, therefore you are constantly reminded of your assignments and will actively complete them.

how to stay productive at university first year

I suggest a wall/ desk calendar type thing where you can put your social engagements on there aswell to double make sure everything is done and dusted.

3 | Make a ‘To Do’ Sheet for Each Exam/ Assignment Due as You Get Them and Put Time Stamps on Each Task

Just been set your assignment on Mass Spectrometry? Well spend about an hour after your lecture going through the specification and detail what needs to be done in a big to-do list in your organiser. Our master to-do list is great for that!

    Download it below 🙂

You’ve successfully signed up! Check your email for details.

Having this to do list will allow you to plan your time accordingly. For example, if you only have two hours to spare after lectures before dinner with the girls, you can start on the section that will take roughly two hours. Therefore you can still go to dinner but also be on top of your assignments.

4 | Spend Your In-between Lecture Time In The Library Catching Up On Notes

I’m gonna let you in on a little secret, the hardest thing to keep up with at university is not the assignments but the notes.

Take every single spare moment in between, before and after lectures, that you have free, to catch up on all of your notes. This will save you a lot of time before the big exam rush trying to catch up with your notes. Therefore giving your ample revision time.

    5 | TIME BLOCK

Treat university like a full time job. From 9-5 you have lectures (meetings) and personal work times. I recommend separating the blocks into different modules. Here’s an example of time blocking:

how to stay productive at college

It is crucial that you stick to your time block to save yourself from over-running and burning out. Time blocking will also set your brain into a rhythm where you are working from 9-5 effectively and give yourself something to look forward to afterwards.

6 | Plan Your Day The Night Before

In relation to time blocking, make sure you plan the night before. I know things can rock up spontaneously on the day but the beauty of planning and having everything done for that day, by a certain time, will mean you can meet your social engagements.

7 | Do Not Freak Out!

If you don’t complete your to-do list, don’t fret; I rarely completed mine. It’s all about being realistic and knowing what you can/ cannot do in a day.

For example, my to-do lists used to look like this:

    • Lecture 9-10
    • Lecture 11-1
    • Lecture 1-2
    • Start Assignment on Polymers – Introduction
    • Notes on lecture 6
    • notes on lecture 7
    • Complete exam questions for module ch326
    • Go to labs and set up reflux (30min- 1 hour)
    • Dinner at 8

Now that is way too much to do in one day; I don’t think anyone could do that. I used to be really disappointed when I only checked off about half of the things on my list until I really started paying attention to the time it took to complete my tasks. Therefore, I was able to adapt my to-do lists.

Now, my to-do list looks like:

    • Lecture (9-10)
    • Start Assignment on Polymers – Introduction (10-11)
    • Lecture (11-1)
    • Lecture (1-2)
    • Lunch (2-3)
    • Complete exam questions for module ch326 (3-4)
    • Notes on lecture 6 (4-5.30)
    • Set Up Reflux (5.30-6.30)
    • Dinner at 8

There we have it: 7 Insanely Easy Ways on How To Stay Productive At University Without Risking Your Social Life!

  • 20+ Genius Ways to Decorate Your University Room That We’re Obsessing Over | University Room Ideas

This post is giving you some university room ideas that will transform your uni room from drab to fab!

university room ideas - university room halls uk - dorm rooms uk - uni room decorations - cute university rooms

Ello ello, you’re here because you are looking for some ideas on how to decorate your university room. All three of my university bedrooms were given to me bare and bland and yours will be too. They will lack personality, have ugly carpets and probably a few DIY paint jobs in random spaces on the wall. Therefore, you want to quickly get in there and decorate it to make it yours as you will be living there for a whole year. It’s possible, it’s doable and all of these ways below will help make your room yours.

If you haven’t yet packed for University, make sure to check out my Ultimate Uni Packing List, comprising of everything you need! Without further ado, let me share some of the best genius ways to decorate your university room.

This post is all about University room ideas.

    University Room Ideas

We are here to take the stress out of decorating your room and make it easy as possible. Your university room is going to be your little slice of heaven, whether that be to relax after a long day, entertain friends, and get your study in (amongst other things lol.)

Before we get into the university room ideas, I am going to list a few things all university students need when you are decorating you uni room: renter friendly adhesives!

Student Friendly/ Renter Friendly Decoration Must Haves!

You are going to be sticking some of these things up and these command strips all leave no mess, no fuss! However, if there is a bit of a mess this polly filler pen is amazing!

    Repair Filler

So easy to use, quick drying and hassle free!

    Amazon UK

Now enough chatting from our end, here are some super cool and easy university room ideas.

    1. Hanging Ivy

    university room ideas uk

    @lxlybaker

    Recreate this Room:

This idea will NEVER get old, because you can do so much with this fake hanging ivy. I love how simply Lily hung these up but I have been in plenty of university room where these ivys have been draped so artistically across walls and bookshelves. Also, adding some nice greenery to your room will really brighten it up and make it more inviting and cozy. Plus, these require zero watering!

    2. University Room Ideas IKEA Plants

This uni room decor idea was one of my favourite ways to add an extra something to my uni bedrooms. I do not suggest keeping plants that need a lot of watering because chances are you’ll forget to water them and if you are away on Christmas and Easter break, no one will water the for you. Alas, fake plants are the answer!

These were my favourites (you can also get them from IKEA):

    Artificial Hanging Plants
    • 3 pack
    • Assorted
    • Perfect for anywhere!
    Amazon UK

These hanging plants are so perfect for any room- you can put them on your window sill, bookshelf, desk etc.

If you want something abit more muted- these plants are perfect. They will look so cute on a desk, bathroom, or tucked in on a shelf.

    3. Washi-Tap Wall!

    university room ideas dorm

    @livvy_home

    Recreate this Room:

Who else had never though of using washi tape on their walls? If you are looking for some university room ideas for your walls that is simple (and fairly easy) this is such a perfect solution for art on your walls! Student landlords will literally fine you for anything so luckily, washi tape does not leave any marks behind- a perfect university room ideas.

Drawback, i guess you can only really work in lines. HOWEVER, you can get yourself some really cool washi tape and go all out!

    4. Pompom Garlands!

    @paint_and_pom

    Recreate this Room:

    Pom Pom Garland
    • Felt Garland
    • 40 Balls
    • 12 Feet Long
    • Assorted Colours
    Amazon UK

I have to say these pompoms are one of my most favourite university room ideas as they are so frickin cute! I love how different they are from your traditional fairylights 😍 and they come in so many colours and styles for you to chose from (like they even do Christmas ones!) Definitely pick these up and hang them on your bed, wall, shelves, anything, for a pop of colour.

    5. University Room Ideas LED Lights

    @lizzie_harvey01

    Recreate this Room:

    LED Strip Lights RGB
    • Colour Changing
    • Music Sync
    • 10M long
    Amazon UK

LEDs are not just for teenage boy bedrooms anymore. LEDs are extremely versatile when it comes to decorating and they can literally go anywhere. Some options for university room decor is:

    • LEDs around the wall
    • LEDs behind furniture – so it looks like it’s glowing
    • LEDs around a floor length mirror
    • Like this photo, LEDS around weird wall shapes!

These ones are perfect – they’re just long enough to fit any space and they even sync to music (perfect for house parties!)

    6. A Whole-Azz Photo Wall!

    university room ideas bedrooms

    @itsjojosugianto

    Recreate this Room:

A photo wall is perfect, especially if you are going far away to uni! It’s so nice to have a a few photos (or a hundred) from home. For cheap photos definitely check out freeprints! However if you do not want to have photos of yourself on your walls, these packs from amazon are great and come in a bunch of different themes/ colours.

Also the crochet pillow is so cute and homey. I think the crochet adds a nice new dimension to your room and is quite different to your standard pillows. Its so important you add some luxury to your room- you may be students but you still deserve nice things 🙂

    7. University Room Ideas Food Storage

    @llmatthew.int.arch

    Recreate this Room:

In my opinion this is one of the best university room ideas ever! Going to the kitchen to make a drink is SO last year. These trolleys are so versatile you can put snacks, books, whatever you want on them. They can be as decorative as you want them to be! Having it is a MOVABLE drinks cart is so smart though- you will be studying and do not have to get up to make some coffee!

    8. Art Prints!

    @thecuriousplannerblog

    Recreate this Room:

Art prints immediately make your room yours! They add so much personality to your room and DO NOT break the bank or the rental agreement!

PS: your university will most likely have a poster fair at some point in the first few months so definitely check that out for more variety!

    9. Photo Grids

    Black Metal Wall Grid

    • Comes with extras to use as bulletin board
    Amazon UK
    Metal Wall Grid
    • 65 x 45 cm
    • Assorted Colours
    Amazon UK

I love these photo grids and I wish I knew about them whilst I was at university. They are multifunctional and you can double them up and make them as large as you would like!

I would personally go for a mix of things on my board, from photos, to memos, to memorabilia (is that the word I am going for?) just to make it more personal.

    9. Bookshelf Desk

If you are not living in halls or just have a very small desk, I highly recommend buying one of these desktop bookshelves.

They’re so cool and you can adapt them to however you like. These add so much function to your desk and also saves a bunch of desk space.

If you would like some more desk ideas, check out my ‘how to organise your desk’ post here.

    10. Moon Phase Garland

    university room ideas england

    @aesthetic_immie

    Recreate this Room:

This garland is one of my most favourite university room ideas! I love the moon phases, and the fact that they come in a bunch of metal colours is an added bonus, so they can fit any theme/ taste. I highly recommend looking into these because they are out of this world! 😍😍😍

    11. Fairy Light Wall

    university room ideas for ladies

    @thecuriousplannerblog

    Recreate this Room:

If you do not have room for a source of light in your room; these lights are the perfect solution. The fairy lights make your room feel super cosy and relaxing. They are also super easy to put up and surprisingly really long.

I got these for a pretty good price, especially as they are electric and you can change the light settings on them! They are one of the favourite things in my room; highly recommend!

    12. University Room Ideas: Mirror It Up

Jewellry Cabinet Organiser Over The Door Mirror

    • Easy to transport.
    Amazon UK
    Black Full Length Mirror
    • 110x40cm
    • Free Standing or Hanging Mirror
    Amazon UK

I am obsessed with mirrors! Adding a mirror will help give the appearance of a bigger room and you can also take bomb ass outfit photos and the prints just add more of your personality.

Both of the options above are great prices for mirrors (honestly never knew how expensive mirrors could be!) the black one is a great option as it hangs over your door- this could be for bathroom, bedroom or wardrobe doors. This mirror also comes in a range of colours and can fit both jewellery and makeup.

    13. Must Have University Room Tapestry

Every first time uni student needs a tapestry to jazz up their room and these ones are my absolute favourite:

    14. University Room Ideas Storage Boxes

university room ideas - university room halls uk - dorm rooms uk - uni room decorations - cute university rooms - transform university room - cute prints for university - college storage - small room decor

Who says storage has to be ugly? Storage can look super trendy whilst also being extremely functional.

The options listed below are really good for university as they are cute, easily transportable (between moves) and they fit various functions.

I cannot get over how cute these little baskets are! i’m thinking skincare in one, shower stuff in the other, all little face towels in the third. These are just an overall university room ideas staple because they can make anything look cute!

These are such cute decor options as opposed to clear bags/ caddies.

    Round Storage Baskets

    • Perfect for toiletries or pens
    Amazon UK

These storage boxes are absolute lifesavers. They can go just about anywhere and look really nice on top of a wardrobe/ under the bed. Plus, they have lids!!

If you are looking for something a bit more trendy and boujie, these white wicker baskets are stunning! They come in three different sizes and make GREAT storage decor!

    15. Cool Photo Frames

Photo frames are a nice way to spice up your university room decor. I love cool and unique frames and these are so lovely.

    16. Photo Lines

These are also such a cool way to spruce up a naked wall whilst adding personality. Not only do you need to hang up photos but you can also hang up cool prints.

    • 60 Clips
    • 10M
    • Battery Powered

This post is all about starting university tips you need to know.

RELATED POST: Everything you NEED To Take to University | University Packing Checklist!

Starting University Tips You NEED To Know

These tips are going to mostly relate to your university experience and things a lot of people do not tell you! Let’s get into some things to consider when going to university and living away from home for the first time.

    1. Your housemates are NOT going to be your best friends

This is one that was a shocker to learn. When you see people on instagram at uni, they seem so close with their housemates; they’re having the best time at Freshers and really living their best uni life. Or are they? Most likely case scenario, it will not last or they’re only showing a few of their housemates.

You’re living with new people for the first time in your life and personalities are bound to clash. You are not going to get along with everyone and not everyone is going to get along with you.

Sometimes the people you don’t get along with are your housemates and this is OK as it pushes you out of your comfort zone to make new friends and hang around with the housemates you do get along with.

    2. People are only posting the ‘Fun Times!’

During first year you are going to go through a bit of a wobble where you’re a bit down and homesick and it’s not going to help seeing everyone living their best uni lives on Instagram. Just think, you have only documented the good times in your life on Instagram, you haven’t shown the downs and it is the same with other people. Everyone goes through a wobble in University, it’s tough but please don’t think you are alone in this. Talk to your friends and your family; it will be okay.

If you are finding that your anxiety sometimes is getting the best of you, please click here for my guide on what helps reduce my anxiety, which may help you too.

    3. You NEED to know that some students are messy!

On the more gross side of these starting university tips is messy housemates. We have all seen the images and tiktok videos of messy student flats and prey it will never be us, but you cannot pick your housemates.
You may not mind it at first but when fresher’s is over and everyone is staying in a bit more, you are going to notice that some people do not care if a pan, with food in, has been sitting out for 5 days straight.

    grocery cart with item

    4. Food is expensive! (especially cheese)

This one was such a shocker. Your first food shop is going to leave you shell-shocked. You will not believe your mum has been spending a fiver on a good brick of cheese (like wth, you could use that to fund a night out!) You will soon learn which items you need to buy branded (like coffee, tea) and unbranded (like cheese.)

So here is some funny advice for university students: start saving because you can’t just live off of alcohol- you need food!

    5. DO NOT move into your 2nd year University house with the People You Met in Freshers

As far as starting university tips go, this one is mega important.

    Please.

You were a different person in freshers; you were drinking, living it up, having good, fun times. However, once a few months has passed and you are not that person anymore, you’re more yourself and you have found new friends; you probably do not even get along with your fresher’s friends anymore.

My uni town’s estate agencies didn’t open any of their student listings until January so we had a whole term to find some housemates. However some estate agency’s start listing as early as October so be REALLY sure on who you want to live with.

    6. Try to say ‘Yes’ To Every Opportunity

You learn so much about yourself in university therefore, it is so important to say yes to everything you can say yes to. Ofcourse, this is within reason, like don’t go on a three/four day bender if you don’t want to. However, if you have always wanted to skinny dip or cheerlead, then do it!

You are only at university once and time flies; make sure you make the most of it.

    7. Get To Know your Tutors

Build a relationship with them as they will be more likely to help you out with assignments and revision. Also they’re actually really cool and will share some cool stories with you.

    8. Don’t like your course? Changing is easy

Well it’s easier than you think. You will most likely have to miss a year and then start in first year again but it’s easy to change. Speak to your tutors, let them know how you are feeling and they can put you in touch with people that can make the move possible.

    • Counselling
    • Landlord advice
    • Bereavement services
    • Mitigating circumstances help

    11. Join Clubs to Enrich your Experience

When you start university, there is this thing called Fresher’s Fair where all of the university clubs come together in one place so you can sign up and join all of the clubs you are interested in.

Dominos is also always there giving you free pizza (yum!)

Joining clubs is a great way to meet new friends and try things you never have tried before.

    12. Work Experience whilst at University is Important

It is important for your career, and your university experience. Work experience during your university years may help you decide what you want to do but most importantly, it will help you decide what you do NOT want to do.

Make things easier on your graduate self and try go for some work experience. This means applying to loads of summer internships and emailing recruiters. This will help you find a job in the post university graduate market.

    13. How to Prepare for University Mentally | First Year IS NOT Always The Best Year

If you are wondering how to prepare for university mentally, this is one of the best university freshers tips. You are finding your feet, meeting your group of friends, getting to know the city, getting used to living by yourself and all of these different personalities. That’s a lot to put on yourself in 9 months.

First year can be really stressful but hang in there! I really disliked my first year but my second and third years were the best year’s I’ve had in my life. For second year, you are going to be living with people you actually want to live with and have a much better experience.

    14. University Long Distance Relationships do NOT work

Take this starting university tips with a pinch of salt as every relationship is different!

Now this is one I do not have experience in but I know a few people that have. Relationships at uni are hard. Freshers is an intense experience so it’s difficult to go through it when you’re apart from someone.

    15. The best starting university tips is: It’s NOT as Scary as You Think It Will Be

University will most likely be the best time of your life. You learn so much about yourself and others, you go through so many ups and downs but everything is worth it. You will meet some friends for life and do some questionable things but you’ll laugh more than you cry and think about uni for the rest of your life.

The Ultimate University Stationery List | 15 Essentials You NEED To Use

This post is giving you the top tier university stationery list of essentials items that you will need to help you succeed, stay organised, and ace your degree!

    university stationery list uk

Now you’re a serious student if you are reading this post. You want to do well, you want to stay super organised and you just want to be that girl, that boy, that student! Using this stationery list for university students you can do just that!

After having completed a full three year degree, I know EXACTLY what university students need!

This post is all about the ultimate university stationery list!

This post is just focusing on stationery, so if you would like a full list of every single thing you need for College/ University click here to check out what to take to university

What Gives Me The Right to Write this Stationery List?

As a seasoned stationery lover and self proclaimed organization junkie, I went to University for three years for a BSc and I went through a lot of stationery. It was bad for my bank balance but fantastic for you because I really found out what stationery was best and what really works; not just for me but for many other people.

    Best Stationery for University!

Now before we jump into this post and I let you in on the ultimate university stationery shopping list, I wanted to do a little foreword.

Having all of this stationery does not mean you are going to succeed. AKA do not think just because you have a binder and some highlighters, you are automatically going to get a first! Don’t get me wrong these items will help massively, some may say they’re crucial, for success. However you need to be in the right headspace and UTILISE these items effectively and put the work in. Uni is a place of fun, temptation, and freedom. You will need to work out a balance of work/ play that will work for you. It really is a trial and error process and you will fail at it sometimes (we’ve all been there). Just stay safe, have fun, and please please, get yo work done!

You do NOT need to get absolutely everything on this list; this is a guide on what has worked for me and fellow students in the past and present. You most definitely do not need 3 packs of note-taking pens- the options are just there for you to make an informed decisions of what pens etc. will suit you best!

    1. A Planner

Busy B Mid Year Perfect Planner Diary 2023/24

    • Multicolour Spot
    • Week to View A6 Diary
    • Notes, Pen Holder and Tear-Out Lists
    Amazon UK

First and foremost, you NEED a planner. I cannot stress how much it pays off to be organised whilst getting your degree. If you are not one for bullet journaling (click here to learn how to make one!) then definitely purchase an academic planner. The benefits of a planner is INSANE! It helps you to keep on top of school, your social life, your job, all whilst getting things done.

Ps. if you want to know how to stay super productive at university without risking your social life, click here!

These planners from Busy B are SO good, I used one for the majority of last year before I switched to planning. You can get so many versions and sizes! I included an A5 and A6 one below!

    2. These Assorted Notepads

I recommend having different notebooks for different courses, if you are a hand note taker. This helps keep your notes nice, organised, and separated to make it easier for you to study and distinguish between modules. I would personally recommend the bottom set of notebooks more as they are higher value for money and come in a pack of 10 so these will do you for the whole year!

However if you are looking for a higher quality notebook, then these oxford ones are great.

Oo you can also combine the notebook sets and use the school style books for rough notes and questions etc and then the oxford ones for clean notes.

I experimented a lot during uni and found the best way to use notebooks for me was to take rough lecture notes in the binder listed below and then use these notebooks to write up neater notes for separate subject!

    3. Binders and Folders

    3-Ring-Binder with Pockets
    • 0.5”
    • 4 Pastel Binders
    • 11″ x 8.5″ US Letter Size, A4
    Amazon US Amazon UK
12 Pack Plastic Poly Filing Envelopes
    • 11 Holes Expandable Binder Folders
    • Clear Envelopes Binder Pocket with Label Pocket
    • Snap Button
    • 4 Assorted Colours
    Amazon US Amazon UK

These are brilliant to arrange all of your notes and loose papers in. You will get so many handouts so a binder or a classic folder will be your organisation saviour. I used to take one to lectures with me and had rough paper in the binder and I basically had all of the notes from the past few days in that binder.

For one of my uni years, instead of having separate notebooks for my lectures I had binders for each module and then once I made neat notes and we didn’t have to revisit the lectures again I transferred them from my catch-all binder to their specific binder.

I did really like this method, it was nice using these folders within the binder as I had a place to put all handouts!

    4. A4 Dividers

I always used to get mine from my university shop for about 80p or even the pound shop! These are great for your binders to separate modules, topics, etc.

    5. A5 Binders

Some people prefer to write out their notes in A5 form and these binders are perfect to take your notes in. They’re easy to slot into any bag; however just be mindful that most of your lecturers will give you a4 printouts.

    6. A5 Binder Fillers

A5 Refill Paper Lined, 6 Ring Planner Binder Inserts
    • A5 Dividers
    • +320 Pcs Bright Neon Flags
    • 2 Packs A5 Planner Inserts Refill Pad
    Amazon US Amazon UK

These packs are great! They come with some sticky notes, paper, a folder and some dividers for your current notes. They easily slot into your binder and if you would rather have binders full of notes they are perfect organisation tools.

    7. Flash Cards

For degrees where you need to remember key pieces of information or have short and snappy question and answer questions (like science, history etc), flashcards are a MUST! I used flashcards for my revision (I honestly had about 70 packs of them) and they truly helped me get a first. They are such a great tool to test yourself and study from, as you can repeat as many questions as you like, a really tailor them to yourself and your needs. I used to hole punch them and clip them with these ring bind circles to create little packs.

    8. Pencil Pouch and Basic Pencil Sets

    EastHill Big Capacity Pencil Case
    • Multiple Colours
    • Fits so much
    • Easy to organise
    Amazon US Amazon UK

These are majorly self explanatory but you will be surprised at how many people forget coming to uni without your basic pencil and rubber, not even to mention a pencil case. These little sets are great especially if you are doing a note taking heavy or STEM subject (so basically every subject.)

    9. Calculator

This one is a serious university stationery list essential! Please, if you are doing a science/ math based course bring a calculator and not just any calculator… the correct one. Someone once had their calculator taken off of them during an exam because it was not the correct one.

    10. Black Note Taking Pens

A pen is the most basic yet the most important thing on this university stationery list! These Papermate pens were my favourite pens to write with; not too thick, glides on the page and doesn’t smudge! For a cheaper alternative these ballpoint pens should be the standard choice and right at the top of your university stationery list.

    11. Coloured Note Taking Pens

My favourite sets of pens were these ones from Staedtler and Papermate; they are dream to write with/ You will love these! The Papermate pens glide nicer on a page, but the Staedtler Triplus ones are better when it comes to annotation as the nib is thinner.

I used them for note taking, annotations, and colour coding.

    12. Coloured Highlighters

    stationery list for university essentials
    Zebra MildLiner Complete Set

Dual Ended – highlighter on one side, marker on the other

    Awesome colour range!

    Amazon US Amazon UK

I really love these highlighters because they are pastel and quite mild compared to the neon colours we are so used to seeing. They last forever (mine still have not run our yet and it has been 3 years) so they are very worth it.

Another slightly pricier option is the zebra mildliners. They work as both a highlighter on one end and a marker on the other- great for taking notes.

(RELATED POST: If you want to see both of these pens in action, click for the best pens that DO NOT bleed through the page.)

    13. Laptop

I think it would be quite difficult for you to go through university without a laptop of some kind. My macbook really saved my academic life. I took it with me to every lecture as it was so light weight. For my biochem module I would type up all of my notes, so they were on there as were all of my assessments and my dissertation. They are great to take to lectures with you and annotate the powerpoint as your professor goes through it.

However the Macbook is bloody expensive so save your money and go for the HP one below. It has been used by so many students and lasts years and years! It is also a fraction of the price, save some money (click here for my student money saving guide) and get a HP.

    14. iPad Pro (but the Air is basically the same so I’m recommending that)

I’m saying an iPad Pro because I would have really loved to have had one whilst at University. With an iPad you can eliminate half of the things on this list. You can take your notes on your iPad, edit your notes, annotate books and use it as a drawing pad. Now this isn’t the most crucial item on this university student stationery list but it’s nice to have.

If you are going to get an iPad and thing the pro below is too spenny, I recently bought the Air 4 and oh my goodness, it works just as wellm and is so much cheaper.

    Apple iPad Air (5th Generation)
    • Multiple Colours
    • Honestly the best thing I have ever bought
    Amazon US Amazon UK

    15. The Best Back-Packs to Put These in:

Here we have two bags for you to put all of your items from this university stationery list. Both of these bags are super useful with myself carrying the second bag for two years. Not only do these both fit your university stationery essentials but also your lunch, water bottle, umbrella, and much more.

RELATED POSTS: f you would like to see more bags, definitely check out this post on 12 university bags for students recommended by students.

I used to have the bottom bag and it was my absolute favourite! It had so much space and could hold so many things! It doubled up as a weekend bag for when i went home some weekends (we love versatility!)

  • 1 Best Space August Bullet Journal Set Up

1 Best Space August Bullet Journal Set Up

This post is sharing with you my August Bullet Journal Set Up, which is a colourful space theme!

Hello! It’s that time of the month again. Yes, you’ve read the title, I am sharing my bullet journal set up for August today. As mentioned in my previous bujo post I really wanted to stray away from the summer themes so I decided to go with a Space theme! I had been wanting to make a space theme for so long but I always thought that I was not artistic enough. Boy was I wrong because I love how it turned out.

I got my inspiration for my theme from my 21 August Bullet Journal Cover Ideas post. Definitely check that out if you need some inspiration!

August Bullet Journal Set Up: Cover

I am absolutely obsessed with this cover. The colours, the planets, the lettering; I love it all. I used two pictures from my August Bujo Cover ideas post and combined them together, with a few of my own ideas, to create this. This is, hands down, my best cover yet (even better than March’s and April’s!)

What I Used to Create these Spreads

I also used this amazing ‘how to draw planets guide’ that I found on Pinterest and it really helped.

    Credit: Diane Bleck

    Trackers and Books Read

I loved how this August bullet journal set up turned out. The Zebra Mildliners have absolutely zero bleed-through and are easy to draw over and colour with. I particularly like the borders on each page, made with the Staedtler fineliner as it gives the spreads a more professional feel.

Overall I am really obsessed with this space bullet journal theme and i believe it can be used for any sort of journal! You can make it a more minimalist spave bullet journal theme or you can add more stars and planets to make it more aesthetic.

Thats a wrap! I say this every time, but this is my best monthly theme yet! Having wanting to do a space theme for quite a while, I am so happy at how this has turned out. I’d love to see your August Bullet Journal Set Up, so please link it below!
